DPD

DPD is one of Europe’s leading parcel delivery networks, operating a dense system of pickup points and parcel shops that form the backbone of its last-mile delivery strategy. In the Netherlands, DPD relies on hundreds of independent partner shops to provide accessible, flexible delivery options to consumers, making partner satisfaction and network stability essential to its competitive position.

What We Did

Diagnosing Churn and Designing a Loyalty Strategy

We conducted a comprehensive analysis of DPD’s pickup-point network in the Netherlands, focusing on:

  • Churn Drivers: Investigated why partner shops leave the network by assessing operational inefficiencies, communication gaps, financial incentives, and competitive pressure from other carriers.
  • Market & Competitor Landscape: Benchmarked DPD’s partner proposition against key competitors, identifying differences in compensation models, onboarding processes, and support structures.
  • Partner Experience Insights: Performed qualitative analysis of partner frustrations—including workload imbalance, unclear processes, and inconsistent driver interactions—to understand where expectations diverge from DPD’s internal workflows.
  • Operational Evaluation: Mapped the end-to-end partner journey and identified points where process redesign, clearer guidelines, or digital tooling could reduce friction and improve shop satisfaction.
  • Strategic Loyalty Framework: Designed a data-driven loyalty strategy structured around communication, financial incentives, in-shop visibility, community building, and stronger driver–shop relationships.

Outcome for the Client

Our findings provided DPD with a clear roadmap to strengthen partner relationships, reduce churn, and enhance the resilience of the pickup-point network:

  1. Reduced Churn Risk: Delivered a loyalty program tailored to partner needs, providing DPD with practical levers (financial, operational, and relational) to retain shops more effectively.
  2. Improved Partner Experience: Recommended communication and training improvements that help shops better navigate DPD’s procedures and reduce everyday friction.
  3. Stronger Competitive Position: Highlighted strategic improvements that allow DPD to match or surpass competitor offerings, making DPD a more attractive carrier for independent retailers.
  4. Actionable Implementation Plan: Presented a phased rollout plan outlining short-term fixes, medium-term process upgrades, and long-term initiatives to institutionalize partnership management across the network.
  5. Enhanced Driver–Shop Synergy: Identified targeted interventions to improve driver interactions—one of the key determinants of partner satisfaction—leading to more reliable operations and a smoother customer experience.
